for centuries poland’s capital had been created by jews, but then jewish warsaw sank to oblivion. to “bring” the past to the present day, museum of the history of polish jews created:

i'm warsze
portraits with non-existent city

to commemorate this forgotten city, “warsaw, varshe” exhibition was established in 2014. but how to make this history live longer than for the period of exposure? a photographic “time machine” projected portraits of jews during camera flashes. they were visible only after the pictures were taken. moreover, people recorded their voices reading stories of our heroes.

we placed our time machine in 3 locations and encouraged people to listen to the stories of these magic places and then – to see, who talked to them. we also asked participants to record stories of the places. volunteers, owned and earned media and social media buzz stimulated inhabitants and tourists to meet 20th-century jews. as a result they became varshe themselves and were exhibited as photo-and-audio units during the „warsaw, varshe” exhibition.

results:

672 participants

351 pictures
189 voices
1 500 facebook shares
3 immortal exhibit units…

all that made jewish warsaw part of our memories.
